Asag or Azag, resided in Kur as one of the Gallas (Gallu),[1] adversaries of humans[2] who were known for torture. Asag is said to be accompanied into battle by an army of rock demon offspring—born of his union with the mountains themselves.[3]
Ninurta’s Exploits[]
In Ninurta’s Exploits, Asag is a monstrous demon so hideous that his presence alone makes fish boil alive in the rivers.[3]
Akkadian[]
Borrowed into Akkadian, Asag was vanquished by the Ninurta, who used Sharur the enchanted talking mace after seeking the counsel of his father, Lord Enlil.[3]

- ↑ In Babylonian theology, the Gallu were demons who hauled unfortunate victims down to the underworld. They were one of seven devils (or "the offspring of hell"). They could be appeased by the sacrifice of a lamb at their altars (Charles Augustus Briggs, Crawford Howell Toy (1911). Essays in Modern Theology and Related Subjects.
